How To Edge A Driveway

January 25th, 2010

The most popular form of edging for a block paved driveway is the use of pre-formed concrete kerb edgings which are available in a range of styles and colours to complement the chosen block paving.

These concrete kerb edgings should be installed wherever there is a need to support the outer edge of a driveway and where planting beds are higher than the new driveway surface and soil / plants need to be retained.

Concrete kerb edgings are set on a mass concrete bed and haunch and must be able to withstand the lateral pressures or weights exerted by the pavement and vehicle traffic.

The concrete haunching for a retaining edge should not be less than 75mm in thickness and where the edge course will have vehicle traffic it should not be less than 100mm in thickness.

The haunching should not be less than 75mm in width and should finish within 15mm of the top surface to allow for surface dressing with soil or aggregates.
